DUSTER Deployable UAV System for Targeting, Exploitation, and Reconnaissance
The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) has been increasing in military
intelligence, surveillance & reconnaissance (IS&R) due to the risk reduction
for soldiers. Under the DUSTER project, SDL is developing the next generation
of exploitation for these UAV-borne sensors. DUSTER will allow a soldier to
sit at a safe terminal to collect and analyze data streams from various sensors
deployed on multiple UAVs in near real-time.
The
DUSTER package includes two advanced IS&R sensors designed by SDL in conjunction
with BYU and Artemis:
- EyePod—the smallest GPS-equipped, completely stabilized, VIS/IR sensor
in existence
- NuSAR—a Synthetic Aperture Radar system that is stunningly small
and produces outstanding images
DUSTER (including the EyePod and NuSAR sensors) will be demonstrated in October
2007 for government and military representatives
