Hyperspectral Sensors

SDL is at the forefront of developing imaging Michelson interferometers and other critical hyperspectral imaging technologies such as data processing techniques and subsystems to measure light spectra wavelengths and light polarization. Hyperspectral sensors are currently making revolutionary improvements in meteorological observations and forecasting, and can reduce the high incidence of false missile-launch indications from US early-warning satellites. Current SDL efforts in the area of hyperspectral sensors include:

  • Hyperspectral imaging polarimeters
  • Hyperspectral grating spectrometer technology covering the 2.5 to 3.5µm region divided into 64 channels
  • The Geosynchronous Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometer (GIFTS)
